Appeals for witnesses after Victoria bus station tragedy

Police have issued a formal appeal for witnesses after a woman died at Victoria Bus Station.

Shortly before 9am yesterday, a 56-year-old woman, who authorities have only said was from South London, was killed after a collision with a bus outside London Victoria Railway Station.

She died at the scene and her family have been informed.

The driver of the bus, a woman aged 46, was also taken to hospital. She has since been discharged from hospital.

Serious collision detectives are carrying out enquiries to establish what happened.

The incident comes three years after a bus driver caused the death of a woman pedestrian at the same station when he accidentally pressed the accelerator rather than the brake pedal.

Photos of a number 13 double-decker bus that had crashed into a passenger shelter at Terminus Place were shared on social media yesterday.

Multiple Met units were in attendance, along with officers from the British Transport Police and the London Ambulance Service.

The station has been cordoned off with large piece of black tarpaulin and police have built a makeshift cordon around the scene as London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan confirmed that the station had been closed ‘for the foreseeable future’, although the railway station itself was not affected.
