Beautiful candle display in Greenwich marks the start of Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal
While there is life and light, there is hope, even at the darkest of times.
That is the message as a charity launched its annual appeal with a display of candles near the former Millennium Dome.
Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal launched at Greenwich’s O2 on Tuesday – the charity’s biggest annual fundraising campaign.
To mark the occasion, Marie Curie created a daffodil artwork made of 4,129 LED tea lights – representing the number of people Marie Curie looked after in their hospices and homes per month last year.
Marie Curie healthcare assistant Beth Namara, 43, who has worked for the charity for seven years, was at the launch.
She said: “People ask us what makes a Marie Curie Nurse different. For me, it’s that you will always see Marie Curie Nurses smiling.
I myself am always calm, smiling, and approachable – ready to help the patients, their family and friends, and other healthcare professionals working in partnership with me.”
Donations are given in return for a daffodil pin during the appeal.
