Body found in hunt for Evelina worker Petra Srncova

Police searching for missing senior nurse assistant Petra Srncova from Camberwell have found a body.

Police were called by a member of the public at around 11.40am on Sunday to reports of the body of a woman that had been found in Brunswick Park, Camberwell.

The death is being treated as unexplained but initial enquiries suggest the circumstances are not suspicious. A post-mortem examination will take place is due course.

While formal identification awaits, Petra’s family have been informed of this development.

Czech Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek has since said the Met had informed the Czech Embassy the body belonged to Ms Srncova, who disappeared on the way to her home.

Ms Srncova, a Czech Republic national, 32, lived in the Camberwell area and worked at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, which is next to St Thomas’s Hospital.

She was reported missing on Friday, December 3 by a concerned colleague.

She is believed to have left the hospital at 7.45pm on Sunday, November 28, and she is thought to have been wearing a green coat and carrying a red backpack at the time.

It is believed that she withdrew money from a cashpoint, before getting on to a bus towards Elephant and Castle.

She is then thought then to have changed to a new bus travelling towards her home in Camberwell, where she was last seen shortly before 8.30pm.

Detective Superintendent Clair Kelland, from the Central South Command Unit which covers the area that Petra lives in, had said Petra’s disappearance was “out of character”.
