Brenda Dacres cuts ribbon on new family support service in first move as Mayor
In one of her first public moves as the new Mayor of Lewisham, Brenda Dacres attended the launch of the borough’s third family support service yesterday.
The service in Shroffold Road, Downham, will provide parents, carers and young people easier access to free activities and support.
This includes parenting and feeding advice, support with well-being and mental health and early language development. There will also be activities for older children and young people aged 11 to 19.
Lewisham council held an opening event where a ribbon was cut by Mayor Dacres, alongside Councillor Chris Barnham, cabinet member for children and young people.
Services at the three sites are delivered by Lewisham council staff and partner organisations, including the NHS and community and voluntary organisations.
There is also a virtual Family Hubs offer on Lewisham council’s website, which draws together information, advice and signposting to further support for families and young people.
Building work is already under way on a fourth Family Hub in Honor Oak Youth Centre, Telegraph Hill.
Cllr Barnham said: “Everyone is welcome, whether to meet and socialise with other parents and families or to get support from services, all under one roof.”
