Brixton pupils swimming to raise money for cancer centre
Primary school pupils are training for more than an hour at a time to raise money for a cancer support centre.
Kings Avenue Primary School, Brixton, are backing the South East Cancer Help Centre by taking part in a fundraising Swimathon on March 7.
The Kings Avenue Team – seven children and the head teacher Rachel Mollett – are in intense training for the upcoming event.
They practise weekly, swimming to improve fitness and stamina levels. They are also working on developing their chosen stroke for the event to maximise speed.
The South East Cancer in Purley supports people and families and aims to give any person affected by cancer an opportunity to explore ways which may help them to cope with their situation.
The centre aims to respect and support them in the choices they make and to provide individual and group support, complementary therapies and information within a friendly, caring environment. These services have local NHS recognition.
