Calls flood in to report fire in four-floor building

Calls flooded in to Control Officers yesterday to report a fire in a four-floor building.

Eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters responded to the blaze at a restaurant in Elizabeth Street, Westminster.

Control officers took 12 telephone calls reporting the fire in the basement of a mid-terraced building.

The basement and ground floor of the building were partially damaged by fire, but there were no reports of any injuries.

The first 999 call came in at around 4.15pm and the fire was under control by around 6.15pm.

Crews from Chelsea, Lambeth, Soho and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
