Camberwell murder detectives seeking rider who delivered victim to the scene
Police have named the victim of a murder in Camberwell and are seeking a moped rider who delivered him to the scene – then rode off as members of the public tried to save his life.
Latwaan Griffiths, 18, from Southwark, was found with stab wounds in Denmark Road, Camberwell, on Wednesday evening.
Police were called at approximately 6.55pm to reports that Latwaan had been found with stab injuries in Denmark Road.
Officers and paramedics tried to save him before he was taken to a South London hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12.22am the following morning. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
At approximately 3.21pm on Thursday, 26 July, officers arrested a 17-year-old male at an address in Kent on suspicion of murder. He was taken to a South London police station where he remains in custody.
Initial enquires into the investigation have established that the victim was on a moped with somebody else, who left him at the scene and rode off while members of the public administered first aid prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
Detectives are now appealing for the rider of the moped to come forward. They have released an image of the moped rider in the hope that a member of the public may be able to help identify them.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding, from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, said: “Earlier today we arrested a 17-year-old male on suspicion of Latwaan’s murder and although this is a good start to our investigation, we still want to hear from the driver of the moped as soon as possible.
“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in another young person being fatally stabbed in London and it’s important we establish where the victim initially received his injuries. If anyone saw the moped make off from the scene or recognises the helmet or moped we equally need to hear from them.”
