Camberwell’s angels take on bags of litter
Two Scouts have done a marathon litter pick to raise money to change the world.
Tabitha Fuller and Amy Turner, from the Fifth Camberwell Scout Troop, scoured Dulwich and Herne Hill on June 2 and collected five bags of rubbish in their neighbourhood.
They’ve been selected to represent their Scout Troop at the European Scout Jamboree – or “Eurojam”– in Poland next year.
The litter pick is part of their fundraising efforts towards the cost of going.
Eurojam encourages scouts from across Europe to discover their potential to change the world and be active citizens.
Tabitha and Amy collected five sacks of rubbish which they sorted and recycled. Tabitha said, “I’m really excited to have been selected to represent my troop at Eurojam.
One of the goals of Eurojam is to raise awareness about sustainable development. That’s why I thought it would be a good to do a sponsored litter pick to fundraise for the trip.
I was really shocked at how many plastic water bottles we collected!”
Amy said: “EuroJam isn’t just an adventure – there are goals too, like learning to embrace challenges, be self-reliant and build self-confidence.”
