Campaigners call for better funding for NHS

Pro-NHS campaigners staged protests demanding adequate funding for hospitals, surgeries and medics.

Lewisham group Save Lewisham Hospital were at Lewisham Hospital at noon on Saturday.

And Lambeth Keep Our NHS Public were at St Thomas’ Hospital – where staff saved the life of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Campaigners were also on Westminster Bridge, in front of the Houses of Parliament, at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Groups were celebrating the 72nd birthday of the NHS.

Campaigner Wendy Horler said: “We wanted to point out that despite warm words and extra funding following Covid-19, the NHS deserves better.

“In the UK we spend £2,913 per person per year (on the NHS). In Europe the median is £3,663 per person.”
