Catford set for Christmas market fun

Catford is set to become a Christmas destination for visitors this winter, with the launch of its first festive market, bringing a seasonal experience to visiting groups, families and residents.

The food market in Adenmore Road – between Catford and Catford Bridge railway stations – usually convenes on the last Sunday of each month, but has been brought forward to Sunday, December 11, when it will take on a particularly seasonal look from 10am-4pm.

The event is the fourth market to be held at its new riverside location overlooking the River Ravensbourne.

The market was in Catford Broadway but moved to its present location in September – the idea being to set it up at different locations in the area.

Showcasing both local and visiting food traders, selling a range of festive favourites, the line-up includes Brett & Bailey, Agua Na Boca, Mandala, Lucknow 2 London, Pat & Pinky’s, Eagle Eats Bakery and the winner of the Mayor of Lewisham’s Business Awards for best new business, Ed Baker.

Those fancying a hot drink, or festive tipple, can chose from Catford Rhumarrange, Beryl’s Beans, Lamad Wine and Catford Gin.

The House of Catford pop-up shop, which took over a vacant unit in Catford Broadway last year, will also be there to launch its festive hamper.

The hamper costs from £40, with 10 per cent of sales going to the Catford Community Fridge, which shares food that would have otherwise have gone to waste, and the Young Lewisham Project, which offers a range of supportive, alternative, vocational programmes to young people not reaching their full potential in mainstream education.
