Charity panto horse race set to take place in Greenwich
It’s time to get off you’re high horse and make a spur of the moment decision, by signing up to the annual London Pantomime Horse Race.
The race, in its 9th year, sees dozens of residents dress up in horse outfits and gallop down the streets of Greenwich.
Organisers are appealing to racers and non-racers to sign up early and start raising money for the youcan-youth cancer support charity.
Mark Biddiss, 44, came up with the idea and has been running the race since 2009.
He said: “It’s one of the daftest annual events. It started as a bit of a pub crawl and just grew from there. It’s all a laugh and a bit of fun.
“Each horse this year will be transformed into an iconic Film or TV character. So expect to see Batman, Marge Simpson, Wonder woman,Thor and Mr. T, to name a few.”
The race takes place on Sunday December 16 with contestants arriving at 11:30 for the pre-race ceremony at Davenport House, King William Walk.
The ceremony will be hosted by TV presenter, Sarah-Jane Honeywell, and will feature live music.
The racers will also take part in a dance off, called Strictly Neigh Dancing which will be judged by celebrities.
Mr Biddiss, who lives in Greenwich, said: “This year has a special Father Ted theme and, while the build-up gets into swing, the world’s 1st costumed Sloth race will also be taking place.
“More details will be announced in the coming months but it’s going to be something very fun to watch.”
The mane event kicks off at 1pm.
