Check when your bins will be collected this Christmas

By Tara O’Connor, Local Democracy Reporter

Bin collections in Croydon will temporarily change over the Christmas holidays.

Residents can now check how their collection dates will be affected using an online calendar.

Collections will be up to four days later than usual. Collections on December 26, 27, 28 and 29 as well as January 2, 3, 4 and 5 will happen two days later.

Those on December 30 will happen four days later on January 4. And collections usually taking place on January 6 will happen three days later, on January 9.

Collections between January 9 and 13 will take place a day later than usual.

There will also be a free collection service for real Christmas trees.

They will be collected from outside properties in the fortnight after January 9.

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “We are all looking forward to celebrating the festive period together this year.

“While there can be a lot of waste at this time of year, simple actions like using your food caddy and recycling Christmas trees, wrapping paper, cards and crackers can make a big difference.

“I want to wish everyone in Croydon a happy, safe, and sustainable Christmas.”

Old electrical goods, homeware or toys can be taken to one of Croydon’s tips, which will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Some could be refurbished before being sent to a community reuse shop in New Addington, at the Fisher’s Farm tip.

You can check your bin collection date by entering your postcode into the council’s digital collection calendar here.
