Chelsea Academy A-level results beat last year’s despite coronavirus

By Julia Gregory, Local Democracy Reporter

Despite the pressures of Covid, students at Chelsea Academy have improved on the college’s A-level results last year.

More than a quarter of all grades awarded at the school were either an A* or A grade and more than 58 per cent were above a grade B.

Seven students got all A* or A grades in their exams.

Because of coronavirus this year students got their results online rather than going in to school at Lots Road to pick them up in person.

The school said:  “With the changes in the grade awarding system these results are sure to go up further.

“However, as always our focus is on individual student success, and this year our students have done amazingly well with top university offers across a range of subject areas.”

It means five students will be heading off to Oxford and Cambridge, including Amier, who gained two A*s and will study maths, alongside Ali, whose two A*s and two As also earned him a place on the maths course.

Adrienna will follow her dreams to study veterinary science at Cambridge after achieving one A* and two A grades.

Eded’s two A*s and one A will take him to Oxford to study engineering and Charlie’s three A*s and one A mean a place studying medicine at Queen Mary, University of London.

Other students whose high marks mean they are celebrating exam success today include Nicholas, who is looking forward to studying politics and international relations at UCL, Sanaa who will study history at the LSE, and Josue, who will pursue a law degree at UCL.

And Jonathan will learn about engineering at Oxford.

Meanwhile Nell will take up a place at Bristol to study medicine after a gap year.

School principal Matt Williams said: “These are a great set of results and destinations for a group of young people that worked so hard and then had the summer exams cancelled when they were ready to shine.”

He said every A-level student has done well and coped with the tough challenges this year of lockdown presented.

“We are celebrating the significant number of students that got into Oxbridge but also all of those that have done well and are now moving on to the next stage of their education journey or into the world of work.”
