Church and Christian college move to make way for £1.1billion regeneration of estate
Two faith hubs vacated their buildings as part of the £1.1billion redevelopment of a massive Battersea estate.
Battersea Baptist Church and Thames Christian College moved out of their homes in Pennethorne Square and relocated to their new shared building on Grant Road.
The old church and school buildings on the Winstanley and York Road Estate will now be demolished to make way for the revamped estate.
Cllr Jonathan Cook, Wandsworth council cabinet member for regeneration said: “The Winstanley and York Road regeneration is a key project for the council.
The total cost of the regeneration scheme will be in the region of £1.1 billion, including £188 million net investment from the council.
This is a significant milestone for the scheme and will allow us to move forward with the next phase of development and deliver more much-needed new housing.”
Battersea Baptist Church will be celebrating its 350th anniversary in June this year.
Stephen Holsgrove, Headteacher at Thames Christian College said: “The unique architectural design provides visual connection throughout the space enabling the school to retain its relational ethos and family feel as it grows.
State of art specialist facilities allow the development of our sixth form in 2023. We are thrilled that our pupils now have the stunning environment they deserve.”
