A teenage volunteer has been recognized with an award for his volunteer work at a nature club.

Oliver Mallett, 15, was named runner up for the Councillor Maxi Martin Young Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with the Wimbledon Common Nature Club.

The award honors young volunteers who show dedication to serving their local community, which Oliver demonstrates through his work as an assistant with the nature club, a monthly group that introduces children ages six to 14 to the natural world.

The mayor of Merton, Cllr Slawek Szczpepanski, presented the award to Oliver on Friday of last week at the Merton Partnership Civic Pride Volunteer Awards, held at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Club leader Auriel Glanville said she was delighted that Oliver had won the award, adding: “He has been with the club since he was four years old and has made a huge contribution to our success.

“He is a kind and thoughtful young man, always looking to help and assist our younger members in our nature sessions.”
