Clapham Park Estate community clean-up finds weapons and drugs

Hidden weapons and Class A drugs were found during a community clean-up.
Veolia’s latest Freshview event on the Clapham Park Estate removed more than litter from Lambeth’s streets, as Met Police cadets uncovered the weapons and £15k worth of drugs, eliminating local crime while benefiting the environment.
The Freshview event was organised in partnership with Lambeth council, Thornton Ward Safer Neighbourhood Team and housing association Metropolitan Thames Valley as a way to help improve street cleanliness.
Police cadets were invited and undertook a weapon sweep while the other 20 volunteers carried out a litter pick. Jason Prentis, Freshview Project lead at Veolia, said: “Freshviews are led by the community for the community.
We let residents come to us with ideas and we do what we can to make them a reality.” Thornton Ward councillor Edward Davie said: “Events such as these are really worthwhile.
The event on the Clapham Park estate brought the local community together and got people more active.”
The group of 20 volunteers, including Mr Davie and the leader of Lambeth council, Lib Peck, spent three hours litter picking, weeding and planting bulbs that will bloom in the spring.
Freshview is managed by Veolia and is an initiative to bring together communities to improve a street, estate or neighbourhood.
