Comedian Omid Djalili says goodbye to the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon
Comedian Omid Djalili visited the Polka Theatre for children for the last time this week to say goodbye ahead of its mothballing.
The Wimbledon theatre in the Broadway, which opened in November 1979, is closing its doors soon to undergo a major rebuild.
He is pictured here with Peter Glanville, Polka’s artistic director, and Lynette Shanbury, the executive director.
“I love Polka Theatre, so I wanted to pop in and say a fond farewell to the team, as they close the building until 2020,” Djalili said. “I’m proud to be a patron and supporter of the professional theatre productions that Polka create for 0-12 year olds.

“I am delighted Polka is getting a new building for its 40th birthday – way better than the pair of socks I got from my sister when I turned 40.
This will ensure that younger audiences have the opportunity to experience new and innovative work created especially for them.
“They still need a great deal of funds, £1million in fact, so when Polka comes knocking, I hope people give generously, as this is such an important force for good.”
Supporters of Polka Theatre can still donate at www.polkatheatre.com.
The building closes on Sunday, after the last performances of The Wind in The Willows and In the Winter Wood.
