Cops make 14 arrests in crackdown on car crime in Bexley
Cops have made 14 arrests and recovered 14 stolen cars as part of a crackdown on car crime in Bexley.
The Met carried out increased patrols during the week of January 20, following concerns from residents about car theft.
Of the 14 arrests, eight were linked to vehicle crime, two for driving under the influence of alcohol, and two for possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
Alongside recovering 14 lost or stolen vehicles, cops also seized another six vehicles which had been reported as stolen.
Sergeant Dave Catlow said: “We heard from people in Bexley that car crime was a significant concern and we’ve acted on that. We know it’s an issue and recognise the impact on the community.
“We will continue to focus our resources on tackling the offences that matter most to Londoners by investing time in proactive operations. We’ve seen how this targeted approach is making a real difference.”
When reporting car thefts victims should call 999 to report a crime in progress, or 101 to make a non-urgent report.
