Cops searching for ‘dangerous man’ in connection with attempted murder of woman

Cops investigating the attempted murder of a woman in Lewisham have named a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Officers are searching for Mateo Valencia Cano, 24, from South Norwood.

Detective Sergeant Ian Barnard, from the South east safeguarding team, said: “We have already made significant progress during this investigation. We are now seeking the whereabouts of Mateo Valencia Cano.

“Cano is considered dangerous and should not be approached. If he is seen, please call 999 immediately. If you have information as to his whereabouts, please contact police via 101.”

On May 24, police were called to Lewisham Way at around 9am to reports of a stabbing.

Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the London Ambulance Service, who treated a woman in her 30s for stab injuries.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where her condition was later assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing, police said.

One man who was arrested in connection to the incident has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

A spokesman for the Met said: “If you have any information about the incident then please come forward to police quoting CAD1891/24MAY24.”
