Council raises £500,000 for climate action investment
A local authority has raised half a million pounds to support climate action initiatives across the borough.
Greenwich council has received £562,000 from investors contributing to its Greenwich Green Investment scheme.
The scheme allowed residents and organisations to make a donation and make a positive environmental impact while earning a 4 per cent return.
The money raised will go towards the installation of solar panels on council buildings and schools, improving energy efficiency across streets, and expanding renewable energy opportunities for communities.
A council spokesperson said: “We are deeply grateful to all our investors for believing in this pioneering initiative and their overwhelming support that raised more than half a million.
“Their trust and commitment demonstrates the power of collective action in addressing the climate crisis, and how empowering local residents and businesses to take meaningful climate action can help delivering cleaner, greener energy solutions for generations to come.”
