Crystal Palace FC set up ‘warm hubs’ and Christmas donation drives

Crystal Palace fans are being asked to donate tinned food, toiletries and household items for the local community at Christmas.

The Palace for Life Foundation – the official charity of Crystal Palace FC – is asking fans to drop off any non-perishable goods at collection points at Selhurst Park stadium.

All collected goods – baby supplies and feminine products are also gratefully received – will be distributed to local people via the Norwood and Brixton Foodbank and City Harvest.

It is a charity that distributes food to grassroots organisations, food banks, refuges for women fleeing domestic violence and families fleeing war-torn countries, and other local groups across London welcoming the elderly and isolated.

Fans can donate items at Selhurst Park from 9am-4.30pm up until Palace’s Boxing Day fixture against Fulham.

As well as the Christmas food bank drive, Palace for Life is helping to set up a “Warm Hub” this winter, inviting residents aged over 65 to Selhurst Park once a week to enjoy a free hot meal and drinks, as well as an opportunity to socialize with fellow residents and staff.

On offer to residents will be a choice of hot meals and drinks, a selection of activities and board games, and talks from guest speakers – all provided free of charge.

The Warm Hubs begin tomorrow (December 6) and will run every Tuesday until the end of February, between 10am-2pm. Pre-booking is essential, either by calling 0203 9068715, or by emailing misha.eleanya@cpfc.co.uk

Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “We hope that by opening Selhurst Park as a warm hub this winter, we can provide an enjoyable experience.

“We recognize that many in the community may be concerned about rising food and energy costs, but hopefully these sessions will provide guests the chance to switch their heating off for a few hours and enjoy a warm friendly atmosphere, some hot food, and the opportunity to socialize with others.”

The hub is being set up in collaboration with club sponsors cinch.
