Cyclist dead after collision with lorry in Brixton
A cyclist in his 60s has died after a collision with a lorry in Brixton yesterday afternoon.
Police were called by London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a lorry in Mervan Road, at the junction with Effra Road, at around 4.15pm.
Officers attended, along with the London Fire Brigade, and closed off Effra Road in both directions.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, members of our Tactical Response Unit, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first of our crews arrived in four minutes and treated a man at the scene.”
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the cyclist died at the scene.
His next-of-kin have been informed, police said.
The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 4830/14Oct
