Deliveroo cyclist and life coach set up tech helpline for the elderly
A former Deliveroo cyclist and a life coach have got together to start up a business to help out older generations with technology.
Jude Kriwald, 29, from Walworth, who worked for the delivery firm, and Nicola Twiston Davies, 32, from Bermondsey, have created How Do I?, a company which promises to guide those who are not tech savvy through the many issues relating to internet usage, computers, smartphones and online scams.
There is free two-week introductory trial to their service Tech Relief, after which subscriptions are taken.
Jude told South London Press: “We are a helpline for when people get stuck with their computer, smartphone or tablet, with the overall aim of building their confidence and teaching them the tech skills they need to maintain their independence as they age.
“Our users call us when they need help logging into old accounts, formatting documents, organising files or any time they want to throw their device out the window.
“Our Southwark-based team are extremely friendly, patient and empathetic, and guide our users step by step at their own pace.
“We teach our customers the skills to solve the problem themselves rather than simply doing it for them. We love seeing the smiles on their faces at the end of each call (some of them are done by simple video call).
“We have been told that our service reduces loneliness and isolation, helps people stay connected, and leaves people feeling confident.”
Jude added: “We were inspired to create this service after reading that 11.9m people in the UK lack the digital skills for everyday life.
“Many of us take for granted being able to whizz around a computer, but for those who didn’t grow up online, the experience is akin to learning a second language.”
