Developers release new details of homes plan for AFC Wimbledon new stadium

The creation of a new stadium for League One AFC Wimbledon moved a step closer with the publication of more project details by its developers – to bring the club home after 30 years.

Partners Galliard Homes and Catalyst Housing have released plans for a 10,000–seat ground in the historic Wimbledon site of Plough Lane.

The development, called Wimbledon Grounds, secured planning permission in December, with 604 new homes with about 400 going for private sale. The other units will be available through Shared Ownership.

The first residential phase, known as Stadia Three, has now been released with 114, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments across the scheme’s three apartment buildings, costing from £435,000 for a one-bedroom apartment (approx. 564 sq ft).

There will all be integrated with 18,000 sq ft of shop space and new facilities for the neighbourhood.

AFC Wimbledon, which is fan-owned, was formed when the football authorities allowed the owners of Wimbledon FC to relocate to Milton Keynes.

The Dons, currently based at Kingsmeadow in Kingston, has won promotion six times in 14 years, most recently to League One.

The club played at Plough Lane in the exact same location as the current site of the stadium construction, before it moved to another stadium further up Plough Lane in 1912. The new stadium will mean that they return to the borough after a 27-year absence.
