Students never sleep and never work – or at least so goes the myth.

DLD College London student, Tia Nasir, proved the other right and the other totally wrong by working through 24 hours without stopping. And she is now celebrating global success following a challenge to create an app for a charity.

Tia, 16, competed against 800 Deutsche Bank employees from all over the world in a 24-hour global hackathon.

Working around the clock, competitors designed an app for Cure Leukaemia to aid the lives of patients.

The determined student from the Westminster Bridge-based college was a team member of She Hacks, the only full female eight-strong team in the competition against eight other teams in the UK, and further sides from India, Germany, Romania, Hong Kong, US, Russia and Singapore.

After a demanding 24 hours, Tia presented her team’s innovative app design to the UK division where they were announced winners of the regional competition.

She then presented the completed project to other groups worldwide on a live feed, which saw Tia and her ambitious team crowned winners of the overall global prize.

Saqib Safdar, head of eLearning at DLD College London said: “Tia is an exceptional, dedicated student and we are very proud of her achievement.

“She has been an outstanding digital innovator at DLD which has involved various creative projects from developing student digital voice, delivering assemblies on e-safety and digital resources, to designing the Principal’s Question Time.

Tia is of the first of our students to have sat and passed the Microsoft Technology Associate (Python) exam here at the college.”

DLD College London, based at 199 Westminster Bridge Road, teaches A-levels, GCSEs, International Foundation courses and BTEC courses.
