Elianne Andam: first image of girl stabbed to death in Croydon

The first image has emerged of the schoolgirl who was stabbed to death in Croydon yesterday.

The 15-year-old – who has been named locally as Elianne Andam – was fatally attacked at around 8.30am, reportedly on her way to school.

Donna Murray-Turner, 50, safer neighbourhood chairwoman in Croydon, was at the scene.

She said: “It’s devastating. It’s not what we usually see. It’s caught us all lacking. There are not enough services for young girls out there, there is not enough support.”

Met officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended the scene. Despite their efforts, the girl died at the scene at around 9.20am.

A teenage boy has since been arrested in the Croydon area, the Met have confirmed. Police said it was thought the pair may have known each other.

Croydon Central MP Sarah Jones said: “I’m heartbroken that a child in my town has been killed on her way to school and I cannot imagine the grief that her family will be going through at this time.

“I want to thank the police and the ambulance service for trying so hard to save her life. I know they will also be suffering today.”
