Elizabeth Line and bus routes affected by strike action on Thursday

South London rail users are being warned there will be no Elizabeth Line services from Abbey Wood to Paddington on Thursday because of industrial action.

Workers of the Transport Salaried Staff’s Association (TSSA) and Prospect are going on strike in a dispute over pay with Transport for London (TFL) and operator MTR-Elizabeth Line.

The staff members striking make up the signalling and maintenance teams at the control centre for the Elizabeth Line.

Some services on other parts of the line will operate, but there is likely to be a greatly reduced service and customers are being advised to check before they travel and to leave extra time for journeys.

Short-notice disruptions are likely until late February, according to Transport for London (TfL).

TfL says it has made a two-year offer of a 4 per cent increase for 2022 and 4.4 per cent for 2023, which has so far been rejected.

Where possible, alternative transport is being urged. A good service is expected to resume at around 9am on Friday.

Howard Smith, TfL’s director of the Elizabeth Line, said: “These strikes will have a detrimental effect during a time when we are encouraging customers back on to trains into central London, in which the Elizabeth Line has played a leading role.”

Meanwhile, there are also likely to be disruptions to Abellio bus services on Thursday due to strike action by Unite staff.

This will affect popular routes like the No.3 (Crystal Palace to Dulwich, Brixton and Westminster), and No.45 (Clapham, Camberwell and Elephant & Castle).

Norwood, Croydon and Thornton Heath will also be disrupted.
