Sharing a vision for economic future of Thames Estuary

Bexley welcomed a team from the Thames Estuary 2050 Growth Commission, led by chairman, Sir John Armitt and vice-chairwoman, Professor Sadie Morgan.
Arriving at the new Abbey Wood railway station, the group were taken on a tour of significant locations in the north of the borough, including the Thamesmead Housing Zone and the proposed site of Bexley’s proposed Place and Making Institute.
They then moved on to Belvedere and Erith. At the Civic Offices, Bexleyheath, council representatives gave the team an update on Bexley’s plans for growth and the work of the C2E Alliance, of which Bexley is a member and that is pressing for the Elizabeth line to be extended to Ebbsfleet.
The visit took place on the day that the commission announced its priorities, which include equipping people with the right skills and providing high quality housing.
Council leader Councillor Teresa O’Neill said: “We were delighted to welcome Sir John, Professor
Morgan and their colleagues to the borough and for the opportunity to share our thinking about the potential of the Thames Estuary.
“We share the commission’s vision of equipping people with the right skills and providing high
quality housing and its support for the infrastructure we need to make this happen will be key to
our plans”.
