Entrepreneurs are nominated top black business awards
A civil engineer, a theatre director and a salesman are among the nominees for Britain’s top black business leaders this year.
Croydon based Georgia Thompson has been shortlisted for the Black British Business Awards STEM Rising Star award. Georgia, civil engineer and design co-ordinator for BAM Nuttal, manages and supports a £25million structures portfolio on behalf of Network Rail.
She has also co-founded a social enterprise to improve the inclusion of diverse groups in engineering and technology industries. Croydon born and raised Alex Alleyne has been shortlisted for the Black British Business Awards Professional Services Rising Star award.
Alex is an enterprise sales lead for Amazon Web Services, and has been recognised by Linkedin as the 3rd Top Voice Globally for Sales thought-leadership.
He has consistently beaten his sales quotas over the last 10 years.
Malakaï Sargeant has been shortlisted for the Black British Business Awards Arts & Media Rising Star award. Director of theatre in Peckham, Malakaï is a writer, theatre director and cultural producer.
He has presented work with Soho Theatre, Serpentine Galleries, the Royal Exchange and the Royal Court.
Lewisham-based Gail Babb has also been shortlisted for the Black British Business Awards Arts & Media Leader of the Year. Gail, a theatre maker/producer and co-director of MA Applied Theatre, has created inspiring participatory arts experiences for thousands of individuals through creative learning in schools.
This year’s shortlist recognises the leaders and rising stars of industry against the backdrop of Covid-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement. They have been chosen because they “embody the Black British community’s ability to prevail, excel and lead through adversity”.
The 2020 finalists will appear in a number of digital events held throughout September and the winners will be announced during a special Black British Business Awards Digital Ceremony taking place on October 2. Melanie Eusebe and Sophie Chandauka, co-founders of the Black British Business Awards said: “This year’s finalists are some of the most determined and innovative black leaders in the UK.
“These exceptional individuals should be extremely proud of their achievements, they are inspiring the next generation of black talent to challenge convention and follow in their footsteps. We wish them the very best of luck.”
