‘Exceptional’ nurse wins Gastrointestinal/IBD Nurse of the Year award from the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

A nurse has won a national award for providing outstanding care to her patients. Colorectal consultant nurse Fiona Hibberts from the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust was awarded Gastrointestinal/IBD Nurse of the Year at the 2019 British Journal of Nursing Awards.
Fiona was commended for setting up initiatives to help patients with colorectal conditions, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, get a quicker diagnosis and reduce their time in hospital.
Fiona, who has worked at the trust for more than 19 years, said: “It’s a real honour to be recognised in this way.
“I’m really thankful to my team as I wouldn’t be able to do my job without their brilliant support and encouragement.
“I absolutely love my job and I’m really passionate about supporting patients with colorectal disorders as they can be very difficult conditions to manage.
“Throughout my time at the trust I have been fully supported to progress within my career and provide my patients with the best care possible.”
Antonia Lynch, deputy chief nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “We are all extremely proud of Fiona.
“She is a truly exceptional nurse and has made a huge contribution to our Trust and our patients’ lives.
Fiona has been instrumental in establishing new projects that have made our colorectal services even better.
“She constantly goes above and beyond for our patients and is a great role model to our nurses.”
Guy’s and St Thomas’ clinical nurse specialist Farinaz Noorzad was also recognised at the awards.
She was named third place for the Respiratory Nurse of the Year Award.
