More than 100 new council homes will be built in the second, and final, phase of a key regeneration scheme in Wandsworth.
The local authority has approved changes to the revamp of brownfield land in Garratt Lane, which will see a total of 113 new affordable homes built, along with two shops, a replacement pharmacy and a bigger NHS health centre.
It comes after the council approved outline plans for the overall scheme, from developer Higgins Homes PLC, in 2020. The first phase was completed this year and saw 110 homes built, including 72 affordable homes, on the site.
The council’s planning committee approved changes to the second phase of the scheme on April 24, which originally proposed 83 homes in two residential blocks – including 14 to be offered under shared ownership – on the northern part of the site.
The changes mean 30 more homes will be built, bringing the total to 113, and they will all be acquired by the council to be offered at social rent. The heights of the residential blocks have also increased from five storeys to six and seven storeys.
The committee also approved small changes to the design of the new NHS Brocklebank Health Centre that is being built under the second phase of the scheme, which do not affect its overall scale and appearance.
