Family of Oladeji Omashore, targeted with stun gun by police before death, welcome inquest
The family of a man who was shot with a stun gun by the Met police and fell from Chelsea Bridge have called for a “fearless” investigation into his death.
Oladeji Omishore, 41, known as Deji was tasered by cops three times before he fell into the River Thames on June 4, 2022.
The initial Met Police media report claimed he was “armed with a screwdriver”, but on June 21, 2022, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed he was instead holding a cigarette lighter.
Now, more than two years later, an inquest has opened into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In a statement, Mr Omishore’s family said: “Oladeji’s precious, vulnerable life was tragically cut short far too soon. The pain is indescribable, and the haunting memory of the moments leading up to his death is one we cannot erase. His life mattered, and his loss should never be in vain.
“Oladeji’s sudden and deeply painful passing has left an irreplaceable void in our lives, made even heavier by the knowledge of his untapped potential. We hope that Oladeji’s story will shine a light on critical policing issues. No one else must ever endure this pain.”
