‘Flames coming out of the scaffolding’: Family-of-four escape blaze in block of flats
A family-of-four managed to escape from a block of flats after a fire broke out of the ground floor.
Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters were called to the blaze in Lauderdale Road, Maida Vale yesterday evening.
More than half of a five-room flat on the first floor of the building was destroyed by fire.
The family evacuated the flat before firefighters arrived at the scene, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
Two adults suffering from smoke inhalation were treated at the scene by LFB and London Ambulance Service crews.

Sub Officer Izzy Ryan, who was at the scene, said: “On arrival there were flames coming out of the scaffolding around the flat that was on fire, as well as heavy smoke logging.
“Thankfully smoke alarms were sounding and the residents had evacuated before we arrived on scene.”
The LFB received the first call to the fire at around 6.20pm.
Fire crews from Paddington, North Kensington and West Hampstead fire stations brought the blaze under control by around 8pm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, the LFB said.
