Fulham Estate agents move to help boost food banks by taking collections

One of London’s largest estate agents is supporting a local food bank by turning all three of its Fulham branches into collection points, writes Yann Tear.

Chestertons is taking non-perishable food donations from clients, staff and residents.

Chestertons’ latest efforts follow new statistics of families who do not have enough food.

Government data shows that the number of children living in absolute poverty has increased by 200,000 in a year, to a total of 3.7 million.

In Hammersmith and Fulham, it is thought that a large proportion of residents are living in poverty and many of these are reliant on the food parcels that they can access through their local food bank.

Food bank use has increased by 5,000 per cent over the past 10 years and donations are desperately needed.

Chestertons says it wants to make more people aware of the food bank, and the urgency of the situation in the borough.

The agency says it intends to work in partnership with the food bank beyond the all-important weeks leading up to Christmas.

It has printed 10,000 flyers that have been delivered to residents asking for their donations.

Items that are especially in demand include long life milk and juice, tinned fruit, tinned vegetables, tinned meat and bags of rice and cereal.
