Fun day to celebrate 50 years of Pride in the UK

An afternoon of fun events has been organised to celebrate 50 years of Pride in the UK.

Greenwich will be celebrating 50 years since the first UK Pride March took place in the United Kingdom on July 1, 1972.

A marquee, hosted by Metro Charity and Queer Circle, will be set up at the free event in Charlton Park from noon until 6pm on Thursday, June 2 to commemorate the past 50 years.

The new Kids Town will keep the kids entertained with workshops and activities, and Royal Greenwich Together 22 will be celebrating with a dedicated Pride50 tent full of performances and activities.

Among the acts and performances will be a daytime disco, badge making, and children’s art activities for all ages from five years old upwards.

There will also be zine crafting, a Polari Secret languages workshop, a wig out workshop, drag aerobics, beginners voguing workshop and a finale catwalk show.

Visitors can explore the marketplace full of food, bars, craft and produce stalls.

The Community Village welcomes voluntary and community stalls plus local choirs and wellness activities.

There are sporting activities on offer with Greenwich Get Active, including football, cricket and tennis.

The free family festival is kicking off a summer of events and begins the borough’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Platinum Picnic in the Park will follow on Friday, June 3, from noon until 4pm.
