Future stars of basketball face off in Brixton showcase on Saturday
A one-day showcase of the top junior basketball talent
in the UK will be taking place in South London this weekend.
The fourth annual Hoopsfix All-Star Classic, a not-for-profit event, is set to
take place on Saturday June 2 nd at the storied Brixton Recreation Centre.
Organised by Hoopsfix.com, the UK’s largest basketball website, it aims to
showcase the future stars of Great Britain by placing 44 of the best under-19s in
the country in two exhibition games against each other.
One will feature players in
their last year in the UK before departing for scholarships in the US,
and the other featuring Underclassmen – players with at least one more year in the
UK.
“We’re so happy to be bringing back the event after a year hiatus,” Hoopsfix.com
founder Sam Neter said.
“The Hoopsfix All-Star Classic serves as not only a bringing together of the top
junior talent in the country, but the entire community. I’m personally excited to
see the level of talent that will be on display, and look forward to showcasing the
stars of tomorrow.”
Thirteen of the 22 players competing in the Class of 2018 game have already
signed athletic scholarships in the US, with others expected to sign in the coming
weeks.
Some 27 of the 44 players feature have represented their country
internationally at a junior European Championships.
In the morning there will be closed-door clinic for youths from Lambeth, before
all four teams will have a walk through practice along with in-house photo
shoots and video interviews.
The event, which has sold out in advance for the previous three years, will open
doors to the public at 1pm with the Underclassmen taking to the floor for a 2pm
tip, while the Class of 2018 will play at 4pm.
Limited tickets, which are expected to sell out quickly, are available online at
