Greenwich’s Danny Thorpe shortlisted for council leader of the year
Politicians have been shortlisted out of hundreds of their peers for an award.
Cllr Danny Thorpe of Greenwich has been shortlisted for the 2020 Councillor Awards for Leader of the Year, in the only national ceremony to celebrate the contributions of councillors.
Also nominated are Bromley’s Cllr Kim Botting in the innovation section and Croydon’s Cllr Manju Shahul Hameed in the finance category.
There were more than 200 nominations across the nine categories in the 11th staging of the event.

Awards up for grabs include Covid-19 Hero and Collaborative Working – new for 2020 – alongside the coveted Community Champion, Leader of the Year and Young Councillor of the Year awards.
The winners will be decided by a panel of judges composed of senior councillors, and officers as well as leading stakeholders from across the sector.
Due to the ongoing health crisis, this year’s ceremony will take place virtually on Thursday, November 26, with special speakers and guests.
