Hero Ian working through pandemic to deliver milk on time
By Jacob Paul
Cream-of-the-crop milkman Ian Beardwell proves that not all heroes wear capes by delivering through the holidays.
Wimbledon milkman for online milk delivery service Milk and More, Ian has been doing the rounds on the same streets in Southfields and Wandsworth for more than 30 years.
He worked through the lockdowns and will continue to deliver the goods this Christmas Eve.
Ian made his very first delivery on Christmas Eve 1979, while helping his dad, and has walked more than 50,000 miles on his round and worn out 100 pairs of boots and trainers.
Ian said: “I am proud to know we have done our part in helping to feed people during these difficult times.
“I love feeling like I’m a part of the community and helping my customers, and other members of the local community, is simply part of my job.
“I am always more than happy to assist them, just as you would expect all members of a close community to.
“This year, Milk & More welcomed 100,000 new online customers from January to the end of October, with 33,000 of that number signing up during a two-week period over March and April.”
Milk & More’s 1,100 milkmen and milkwomen will have made 60 million deliveries between them this year.
Their friendly fleet of electric vehicles will have covered 14 million miles during 2020, and between them will cover an estimated one million miles on December 24.
