Hundreds gather at Southwark Cathedral for Ramadan event celebrating unity five years after London Bridge terrorist attacks

Hundreds of people from different backgrounds across London gathered at a cathedral for an annual event marking Ramadan and a unified community in commemoration of the London Bridge terrorist attacks on June 3, 2017.
Crowds gathered at Southwark Cathedral for the Southwark Grand Iftar, a meal after sunset during the month of Ramadan, on Thursday, April 21.
The event was hosted by Living Bankside in partnership with Southwark Cathedral, and supported by the Association of Muslim Lawyers.
This was the sixth year that Living Bankside and Southwark Cathedral have jointly hosted an iftar.
Speaking at the event the Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Barrie Hargrove, said: “It’s a privilege to have been invited to the Grand Iftar tonight.
“I want to thank everybody that came along and it’s such a moving event with Living Bankside, the Muslim community and Southwark Cathedral working together.
“As one of the speakers said, London is the greatest city in the world. We all come from different backgrounds and that is really the beauty of London and we encapsulated London tonight.”
