‘I want to bring some positivity into a politics’: Lib Dem candidate announced for Lewisham

The Liberal Democrats have committed to campaign for “positive politics” with the announcement of their candidate to be the next MP for Lewisham West and East Dulwich.

Josh Matthews, a former councillor and now an analyst specialising in climate and sustainability, has been selected by the Southwark Lib Dems to contest the new Lewisham West and East Dulwich parliamentary constituency. 

Mr Matthews said: “I want to bring some positivity into a politics that has become almost unbearable. But not yet so unbearable that it’s not worth fighting for something better. A positive politics.”

Mr Mathews’ campaign priorities will include “positive politics” alongside plans for climate and sustainability, and an emphasis on listening to local people and communities.

He said: “I’m committed to working with people, communities and organisations to ask, ‘what do you want?’ not, ‘what don’t you want?’”
