Ireland comes to South London to mark Mary’s centenary

It should be quite a party on Saturday for Mary Peck, as friends from Ireland travel over to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Mary was born in 1923 in the small Irish village of Lismore, County Waterford, where she grew up, and many of her family are planning to join with her South London friends in Mitcham for a very special birthday party at the New Horizon Community Centre, Mitcham.

Mary, who turns 100 tomorrow, moved to England and lived in South London after the war where she met her future husband Charles.

They married on January 24, 1948 and enjoyed more than 60 years of happy marriage until his death in August 2009.

Mary has three children, Doreen, David and Michael, as well as three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
