‘It’s a great opportunity’: Young apprentices celebrate national apprenticeship week in Lambeth
A councillor and MP met with young apprentices in Lambeth this morning to celebrate the start of National Apprenticeship Week.
Cllr Claire Holland, leader of Lambeth council, and Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson MP, joined young apprentices working on Oval Village, a Berkeley Group housing development in Kennington Lane, Vauxhall.
Lambeth has more than 1,000 apprentices in the borough developing their careers in a range of industries, including Nylah Achampong, 18, from Clapham who spoke with the councillor and MP about her experiences.

She said: “I feel like I am learning new things every day.
“I love how hands on this apprenticeship is, and seeing this site project come together has been amazing.
“If I pass my Level Four I want to go on and do the Level Six apprenticeship which will be the equivalent to having a degree. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
Ms Achampong, who went to La Retraite Sixth Form in Clapham Park, is currently a Level Four apprentice in construction, design and building with the Berkeley Group at the Oval Village development.
Cllr Holland, said: “Here in Lambeth we have a relentless focus on ensuring our young people can get the best start in life, and we can only achieve that as a council by working with partners across the borough. Today’s visit to the Berkeley Homes development in Oval is a great example of that.”
