‘I’m helping MDs and CEOs with HR’
A human resources professional with more than 15 years experience has set up on her own, working for small and medium businesses in her role in Human Resources.
Rosaline Kunrunmi, from Abbey Wood, has set up The HR Dept Deptford, Greenwich Park and Lewisham, offering HR advice and support to businesses.
The move comes after a career in the public sector, starting off as a parole officer at in HM Prison Service and then moving into HR in 2006 in various government and non-departmental bodies.
Rosaline, who has four children and wants to help them progress into responsible adults, said she is now anticipating the benefits of the improved work-life balance that her new business will offer.
“I’m excited about getting started,” she said. “Of course, there is some nervousness around the first stages of setting up a new business, but the independence is also something I’m really looking forward to.
“I’ve always liked working with people but when I had my first child the prospect of working as a parole officer didn’t appeal to me anymore.
“I’d studied international business and management, with HR as part of the course, so I decided it was work which allowed me to keep using those skills and affinities, just in a more business-related context.
“Now, 16 years later, I’m taking the step away from large organisations and moving to collaborating with the owners of small businesses. That combination of micro-personal skills and an understanding of institutional organisations is sure to be really valuable.”
Having lived in the area for 25 years, Rosaline is embedded in the community, working as a school governor and as a volunteer in her church parish.
Based in Creek Road, Deptford, Rosaline said the need for small businesses to engage with good employment practices has never been more pressing.
“People management is challenging for business owners, with difficult economic times, changing legislations and the ongoing impact of the pandemic to consider,” she said.
“Businesses large and small are increasingly realising that human resources is a core element of what makes a company successful. So, I’m looking forward to helping business owners, MDs and CEOs make the most of their HR.
“What’s really important at the moment is an emphasis on good employee relations, recruitment practices and retention strategies; on how to find, train and keep hold of talent.
“I know how challenging it can be for business owners to keep their operations running profitably while maintaining a dedicated workforce.
“Having an expert pair of hands to manage this side of the business – to creatively instil the principles of good employment under a solid legal framework – can be invaluable for a small business.”
