Loft fire causes blanket of smoke to fill Wandsworth air

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters tackled a house fire in Parma Crescent in Wandsworth on Friday.

Part of a converted loft in the roof space of the two-storey house was alight. The brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladder was deployed to the scene to fight the fire from above.

One woman left the property before the arrival of the Brigade. Firefighters rescued one dog and two cats from a neighbouring property as a precaution.

Station Commander Thomas Sharp, who was in attendance at the incident, said: “There is quite a bit of smoke in the area, so local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.”

The Brigade was called at around 1.30pm and the fire was under control shortly after 3pm. Crews from Wandsworth, Chelsea, Tooting, Clapham and Fulham fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
