London Air Ambulance teams treat more patients than ever in 2024
London’s Air Ambulance teams treated more patients than ever before in 2024, the charity has said.
In its annual mission report, the London Air Ambulance charity said it received the most calls from Tower Hamlets and Westminster, followed by Lambeth and Southwark.
New figures show the service treated 2,058 patients in 2024, with an average of six patients each day.
This is 51 patients more than the previous year, and breaks the charity’s own records.
Data shows that assaults, road-traffic collisions, and falls from height remain the leading causes of critical injuries in London.
In terms of treatment, the team said it was now performing open chest surgery on average once a week.
A London Air Ambulance spokesman said: “On the worst day of someone’s life, our medics can provide hope for the patient and their loved ones.
“But we’re a charity, with 95 per cent of our funding reliant on people like you.
“We’ve launched a new organisational strategy to ensure our service continues to innovate and can be there for London, today, tomorrow, always.
“Support us now, to help us save the person tomorrow that we just couldn’t save today.”
