The festive season is almost upon us and with it there will be the usual array of fantastic events across Bexley.

One of the events that I am looking forward to this year will take place at Erith’s iconic Carnegie building.
This fantastic and much-loved old building will officially reopen to the public in February, but before the grand opening, The Exchange, together with arts project Centrepieces have organised a free art exhibition ending in an auction and a pop-up cinema.
We have agreed a long-term lease with The Exchange on the building and they have helped us oversee the impressive first phase of the restoration works that are now coming to an end.
These are part of the much wider works taking place across the town as part of the Greater Erith programme.
Erith is one of the key locations in Bexley’s ambitious growth strategy.
The river was an important part of our past and will be equally important in the future, with the riverside areas firmly established as the focus for new development.
Our plans are to make Erith the prosperous and forward-looking place it used to be and we are
excited about the cultural, employment and housing opportunities it could offer.
The success of the events we’ve supported in the town centre and on Erith Pier through the summer show that people will visit the town if the right activities are available.
These events also demonstrated the talent and the sense of community that are the town’s real strengths.
Recent improvements to the town have included important improvements to the public areas around the station, and new homes on the site of the old baths.
More public realm improvements are planned to give the town a much more welcoming feel.
The town’s location and riverfront is a reminder of the town’s history and special character,
something that we believe will help to create new opportunities for people and business already in the town, and others who chose to invest in its future.
So be sure to visit Erith and support some of the town’s special Christmas events. Along with the fun at the Carnegie building, there will be the annual Erith Christmas Tree Festival, the panto at the Erith Playhouse, a Christmas Erith Kitchen, and other community events.
