Man appears in court charged with murder of woman in her 90s at Catford care home

A man was today charged with the murder of a woman in her 90s at a care home.

Alexander Rawson, 62 of Canadian Avenue, Catford, also a resident at the care home where the murder took place, was today due to appear at Bexleyheath Magistrates’ Court.

Police were called to the care home at 12.40am yesterday morning, following reports of an assault.

Officers attended along with paramedics, and the senior citizen was taken to hospital where she later died.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Her next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The same day, a man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a South London police station.
