Man attacked by group of men with bats minutes before boy stabbed

A man was attacked by a group of men with baseball bats minutes before a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in Thamesmead yesterday.

Police were called to Seacourt Road at around 12.30pm to reports a man had been attacked.

A man was found uninjured, the Met said.

Five minutes later, officers were called to Southmere Drive by London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews to reports of a stabbing.

A spokeswoman from the LAS said: “We were called at 12.30pm to reports of an incident at Cygnet Square.

“We dispatched resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.”

Police officers attended the scene where a 17-year-old boy was found with stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as non life-threatening. No arrests have been made as police enquiries continue.

A Section 60 order was put in place in the Thamesmead area until 4.30am today. This means police can stop and search anyone within the area without needing to have reasonable grounds.
