Man charged with attempted rape of woman in West Norwood

A man has been charged with attempted rape.

The charge follows a report that a woman, aged in her late 50s, had been assaulted in West Norwood Cemetery off Norwood High Street, SE27.

The incident is alleged to have happened on Tuesday, 26 May at about 17:35hrs.

The woman told police she was approached by an unknown man who assaulted her.

An investigation was launched by detectives from the Safeguarding Unit on Central South.

Andrew Poku, 31 (01.07.88) of Eversley Road, SE27 was arrested and charged on Tuesday, 2 June.

He appeared in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 3 June and was remanded in custody to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday, 1 July.
