Man charged with murder after ‘tragic’ Peckham stabbing

A man has been charged with murder after a brutal stabbing on Friday.

Aravind Sasikumar, 38, died after being found with stab injuries to his chest outside a house in Southampton Way near the junction with Coleman Way in Camberwell.

His family have been informed and continue to be supported by police from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

On Saturday, Salman Salim, 25, of Southampton Way in Camberwell, was charged with murder.

He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on the same day and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey tomorrow.

Police were called at around 1.30am on Friday after Mr Sasikumar was found suffering from stab wounds.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Sasikumar died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination carried out on the same day confirmed he died as a result of stab wounds to the chest.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander in Southwark and Lambeth, said: “This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with the man’s family as they come to terms with this awful news.

“We will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.

“An extensive investigation is under way and specialist detectives will remain in the area over the coming days as they gather evidence.

“We believe this was an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community. We will also ensure local officers are visible in the area to respond to any local concerns.”
